What do we mean by SHOCK AND SHIELD?
Historically, a surface is cleaned with an all-purpose cleaner or some type of dangerous disinfectant, requiring long dwell times and often leaving behind harmful byproducts and fumes. We don’t think anyone will disagree that surfaces should be disinfected, given the rapidly improving protocols being put in place for cleaner, safer surroundings. The surface needs to be SHOCKED and contaminants need to be destroyed.
The most effective method of disinfecting is through the utilization of UV light. Bacteria and viruses can’t build a tolerance to UV light or mutate once exposed to it like they can with other disinfectants. When using 254-nanometer wavelength UV, the light is able to target and disable disease-causing microorganisms. Unlike other methods of disinfection, UV does this consistently, quickly, and without creating harmful byproducts.
So, how long does a surface remain disinfected? That depends. Is it a high touch surface like a doorknob, light switch, elevator button, or keypad? If it is, then chances are it is likely to be reinfected soon after it has been disinfected. Every touch is another chance to potentially contaminate a surface.
That’s where the SHIELD part of our program becomes very important. When a surface is shielded with our antimicrobial coating, that covers porous and non-porous surfaces, it gains protection from viruses, bacteria, fungus, and mold for up to 90 days. This molecular technology adheres to surfaces and when dry creates nano-sized spikes (similar to a bed of nails) that puncture any microorganism landing on them. The surface can be continuously cleaned and repeatedly disinfected and the antimicrobial shield will remain intact. The shock and shield program keeps a surface protected in case an area is overlooked during the cleaning process. It is protected even when something contaminated touches that surface.
